The Human Rights Foundation Expand Under The Leadership Of Thor Halvorssen

In 2005, the establishment of the Human Rights Foundation came with it a promise by the founder, Thor Halvorssen that he would not become involved in the political arena outside of the need to claim greater levels of human rights in the future. Thor works with a close-knit group of colleagues at the Human Rights Foundation who are devoted to the need of bringing more people around the world their basic rights as human beings. Instead of focusing on the political beliefs of the employees of the Human Rights Foundation, Thor Halvorssen instead looks to create events and programs devoted to helping those stranded in the most difficult environments on the planet.

Thor Halvorssen has often given defectors and former political prisoners a voice through his role as the founder and head of the Oslo Freedom Forum, including the North Korean defector Park Yeon-Mi; Thor has used his position with the Human Rights Foundation to develop a number of programs and events designed to cause problems and highlight the human rights abuses of the Communist nation. Among these events are the Hack North Korea and Disrupt North Korea events Thor Halvorssen has organized with others at the HRF.

Obviously, the Oslo Freedom Forum has become the signature event for Thor Halvorssen and the Human Rights Foundation with its large number of participants and global presence. A second event that follows a similar schedule are the regularly curated College Freedom Forum events that take the issue of human rights activism directly to students on campuses around the world; well known speakers in the human rights activist community take part in these events, which are followed by a question and answer session to allow students the chance to become even more engaged in the subject.
